Lymphoma Support

Patients diagnosed with Lymphoma require a lot of support.  Most of them have been vaguely aware of the disease but have not paid much attention to it until it affected them personally.  When it hits them or their family members they become desperate to know more about the disease. Support groups educate such patients or their family members on a variety of subjects including on how to handle the disease and how to cope with it.
Lymphoma Patient Education programs are generally conducted through seminars and symposiums.

Clinical trials information programs are frequently notified to encourage Lymphoma patients to participate in them.   Ask the Doctor symposiums are also designed to give advice and answer the questions of those traumatized by the diagnosis. Each country has its own set of programs that are designed to help the patient and the family members in coping with the trauma of the diagnosis, treatment and aftermath of the Lymphoma.

The content of these education programs could vary in accordance with the kind of audience who has registered for the program and the location of the program.

Academic and medical institutions collaborate to hold these programs.  Normally, these programs are composed of half day educational workshops for the patients and their family members.  A lymphoma specialist is invited to chair the program and a number of speakers explore topics that may be of interest to the participants.  The topics could include studies in Lymphoma biology and pathology, Disease specific break out sessions, overview of clinical trials, and information about the latest developments in Lymphoma research.  Details of clinical trials proposed to be conducted and possible beneficiaries of such trials could also form a part of this program.
Ask the Doctor/ Ask the Expert programs are intended to address the concerns of those who feel the need for direct replies to issues which are worrying the family members or the patient. These may be conducted on Television, Radio or in direct workshop sessions.  Teleconferences are other examples of similar programs that are held across the different parts of the world.  These programs may be disease specific or of a general nature. Most often the Doctor or expert speaks on a specific kind of Lymphoma and encourages the patients or family members contact them over the telephone live and provides them with answers to their queries.  These programs are extremely popular with the people as it gives them instantaneous answers to questions that have been troubling them.

Apart from this a large number of organizations print and distribute information pamphlets in hospitals, educational institutions and centers where they are likely to encounter cancer patients.
The Internet too, is a great tool for disseminating information about Lymphoma and its treatment.

Clinical trials are used as symposiums that bring the research into the testing environment.  They help both the patient and researcher appreciate the difficulties of cancer research and cure and are devoted to advancement of science for the future of mankind. A number of research organizations support and promote clinical trials.  Nurses specializing in Lymphoma and researches conducting research are involved in this investigative therapy.

Usually these trials are preceded by an informational session and a question answer session that is attended by all family members of the patient and the patient.   The results of such trials are widely published to help others garner courage to participate and benefit from these trials.

Lymphomas are being increasingly reported. The pollutants present in the atmosphere and the human abuse of the planet and his body has resulted in large numbers succumbing to the onslaught of the disease.  In this context, Lymphoma education is assuming a lot of importance.  It is imperative that both adults and children are taught to recognize and report suspected lymphomas at the inception stage itself so as to arrest the disease at its early stages and to prevent unnecessary deaths of near and dear ones.
